Emergency first aid and CPR is a popular one day combined first aid, CPR and AED course that is available in most provinces in Canada.

Emergency First Aid is one of the most popular combined first aid and CPR courses. This course is offered through St Mark James, Vancouver First Aid and Heart and Stroke Foundation. Candidates that require this course include daycare workers, teachers, fitness workers, public service sector workers, fitness instructors, and many more. This page explains the emergency first aid and CPR program and guides candidates to a course in their area.

Emergency First Aid and CPR Course Registration

Emergency First Aid Course Content

Emergency First Aid includes a variety of CPR and first aid topics. CPR level “A” training comes standard with the course, however, at some locations candidates can opt for a higher level CPR “C” training with the course. CPR “A” training involves rescuing only adult victims using CPR while CPR “C” training involves rescuing adult, child and infant victims using CPR. Emergency first aid also includes training in the use of automated external defibrillators (AED’s). The first aid components of the course include rescues for the following first aid emergencies:

  • Heart Attacks
  • Angina
  • Stroke
    Epinephrine Injector for Allergic Reactions
    Individuals enrolled in St Mark James emergency first aid training will learn how to manage patients with severe allergic reactions by becoming comfortable with Epi-Pen injectors.
  • Transient Ischemic Attacks
  • Broken Bones
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Aspiration
  • Asthma
  • Hyperventilation
  • Wound Care & Deadly Bleeding

Candidates will receive a St Mark James first aid manual at the beginning of the course. The manual consists of all of the previously mentioned first aid rescues and many more first aid emergencies. Register for a course here.

Emergency First Aid St Mark James Certification

Candidates that successfully complete the skills test and the multiple choice test will receive a St Mark James emergency first aid and CPR level “A” or “C” certificate that is valid for 3 years. Candidates may be required to re-certify the award earlier based on employer or school policies. St Mark James does offer emergency first aid re-certifications that also include CPR re-certifications.
